Michael Mueller Yet more great music from Perth, Western Australia, this is a funky, languidly confident EP, shot through with elements of lounge, fun, jazz and hip-hop.

Genre-hopping with ease, GBC display considerable musical skill, both in composition and execution.

The songs blend together almost seamlessly, despite the shifts in mood, and if I have a gripe, it's only that I wish there was more of it!

This is a breeze. Enjoy its cool. Favorite track: Pastel Clouds.

about

‘Repel’ is Grievous Bodily Calm’s much anticipated first studio effort, recorded in early 2018. Consisting of seven interwoven tracks, the record takes the listener through 3 movements: birth into restlessness, agitated eruptions, and peaceful embrace. Being an expression of their identity at the time, the record is intended to convey an emotional narrative, without having to be literal.

‘Repel’ conveys the bands intention to use virtuosity and technical skill to convey emotion rather than intellectualism. This shows a focus on song writing and production, rather than the improvisation and intense interaction associated with their live show.
